Bummer in the summer

'I thought it would be dramatic if he walked all night, but I got tired so I came home' -Yo La Tengo

I didn't sleep at all last night, there is just too much heavy stuff on my mind. I can't blog about it all here, but let's just say be careful who you let make charges on your checking account.

3 Years ago I bought a package from Equifax, that gave me unlimited access to my credit reports and updates etc. Well recently they chose to 'automatically' renew on my old checking account, which unfortunately was still open, but did not have much money in it. NSF fees were charged the first day, and $6 per day since then. Obviously I should've closed this account already, but just because I authorized a charge 3 years ago, does not mean I authorized said charge in perpetuity.

The Irony that Equifax has caused me a credit related problem is not lost on me. Compass assures me that this won't be a problem to get resolved, and the fees (though they will continue to accrue) will be refunded once a resolution is reached in 45 days.

Here's my concern, what if I lose? If you approve the charge three years ago, did I de facto commit to a renewal? I think not, but 45 days at $6 per day could add up. The other option is to take enough money to Compass to bring it the black, and this would stop the charge, and then I would I assume get the money back at some point. I think that's the way to go, but it pains me to give Compass any more money.

Do any of you have any first hand experience with this sort of charge reversal? I'm assuming it's no biggie, but I've never done it before.
